I occasionally go karting with my friends, and every time I go out I try and pinpoint the apexs (and of course hit them),but it's always a lot of "hmmm is that the apex? where is the turn-in point, where should I get on the power for the best exit", etc etc. I've read the racing articles posted a few months ago and have read a lot of articles in the past, so I have read a bit on the subject - however, I'd just like it to become a second nature than a constant wondering. I know that practice and experience are the best ways to do this but time is tight nowadays - what tips can you all give to really help knowing the apex a second nature?

I get that the apex of the first corner depends on the next corner's proximity and degree, and that there is the ideal racing line, and that the true racing driver does the least driving possible so his wheel turns the least - what other basic tips to go fast can y'all give?

There is no proper apex to any corner. It depends as much on the vehicle entering the corner as the corner itself.

Do you mean specifically that the dynamics of, for instance, a FWD Front engine (FF) and a RWD, rear engine (RR) have fundamentally different apexs?

Slow in, fast out. Your apex should be at the point where'd you be able to full throttle after the apex. If it means scrubbing a little more speed, than do it.

Meaning go full throttle out of the apex? Sounds like you'd always want to late apex then...I remember that old analogy of the piece of string from the steering wheel to the accelerator, powerful visualizer there

That's how I drive anyways. The best bet is to go out and develop your own style, as different people have different preferences on where and how. Although, some corners only have one line.
